Numbers 6:23-27 is known as the Priestly Blessing or Aaronic Blessing. It’s a deep and timeless part of the Bible’s Old Testament. This passage gives a special formula for asking for divine blessings on the children of Israel. It gives a sacred task to Aaron and his sons.

God’s Face Shines Upon Us in Grace
“The blessing of God’s face shining upon us is more than a poetic expression; it’s a profound truth about His approval and favor. His grace is freely given, not earned, showing us His unfailing love. As He lifts His countenance toward us, He assures us of His presence and care, bringing peace to our hearts.”

God tells Moses to give a specific blessing to Aaron and his sons. This blessing is not just a wish. It’s a divine command, filled with God’s protection, favor, grace, and peace. The words used are poetic and powerful, showing the deep blessings for the people of Israel.

Psalm 121:7-8
“The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

The first part of the blessing says, “The Lord bless thee and keep thee.” This starts with divine favor and protection. “Bless” means more than just wealth; it’s about spiritual well-being and God’s care. Being kept by the Lord means safety for both body and soul, showing God’s all-encompassing care.

The next part of the blessing says, “The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee.” This part uses symbolic language to show God’s favor. God’s shining face means His approval, love, and kindness. The mention of grace shows God’s favor is given freely, not earned.

Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.”

The text then says, “The Lord lift his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” This part talks about God’s favor, with His face turned towards His people. The blessing ends with peace – a deep peace that goes beyond human understanding. This peace brings harmony, wholeness, and completeness from God’s presence.

The last verse says, “And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” This verse talks about putting God’s name on the people. It’s a sign of identification, ownership, and divine connection. The promise after reaffirms God’s commitment to bless the children of Israel, showing the importance of His name in this blessing.

Numbers 623-27

Carrying the Name of God
“To bear the name of God is to carry His identity and blessings with us. It’s a mark of belonging, reminding us that we are His people, cherished and protected under His watchful care. In His name, we find our peace, our purpose, and the assurance of His promises.”

Numbers 6:23-27 is a passage full of symbolism and importance. It’s a divine instruction to the priesthood and a timeless expression of God’s desire to bless, protect, favor, and bring peace to His people. The poetic language in these verses resonates across time, making the Priestly Blessing a cherished and widely invoked passage in Jewish and Christian traditions.

John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
